Barrowford Lock No 45

Today's the day ........................... for a spectator sport

If you're in a narrowboat negotiating locks on a canal and it happens to be a warm, sunny Sunday in the middle of a Bank Holiday Weekend - you have to accept the fact that you are going to draw the crowds.

You will have to perform all the manoeuvres under the watchful eyes of often a fair-sized audience.  You will be asked many questions.  You will hear adults explaining to children the finer points of what is happening as if you were an invisible part of it.  You will receive offers of help (usually gratefully accepted) and words of encouragement.

You will be the main attraction for a little while - and you'll love every minute of it ......................
