Ileodictyon cibarium...

...Or basket fungi as it is commonly called in New Zealand. They are shaped somewhat like a round or oval ball with interlaced or latticed branches. While the immature fungi are said to be edible, the mature fungi is foul-smelling and covered with a slime layer containing spores on the inner surfaces. This fungus grows alone or clustered together near woody debris, in lawns, gardens, and cultivated soil.

I might sniff to test the foul smell, but I am not going to test the edibility of the immature fungi.
