Polluted and Populated

I managed to hop out onto the deck tonight to take some night shots. With the sky so clear, it seemed like the perfect night for it. While it was a bit of an effort, it was lovely standing out there in the cold again.

The view from the deck of the galactic core of the Milky Way is looking East,  out towards Christchurch and Ashburton. Bet you can't guess where they are in the photo....

Clear night it may be, but there's still quite a bit of light pollution. Luckily our sky here is so dark that if we spin round 90 degrees towards North we've lost most of the sky glow. And then we turn our mind to how populated the sky is with stars, rather that how polluted it is with spill light.

After all that effort, time for bed I reckon.... Bit knackering this being off your feet thing.
