Stewart Memorial Fountain 1872

What better way to celebrate the life of the one person who did more than any other to bring fresh water to the city of Glasgow, Lord Provost Robert Stewart.

Bringing fresh water from Loch Katrine in the Trossachs was a huge engineering project, completed in record time, this did more for the health of the city than any other single initiative.

The style is described as French Gothic and the design by James Sellars was chosen from no less than seventy-five submissions in an international competition

The work was done by local sculptors John Mossman and James Young

P.S The figure atop the fountain is Sir Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake. and the location is Kelvingrove Park.
