A mess of Peacocks

It may have been a poor day for seeing butterflies (in the East anyway), but there were caterpillars to be seen on my walk today. I saw yellow and black Small Tortoiseshell caterpillars in relatively well-organised webs and these messier clusters of Peacock caterpillars. They seem to know that their spikes, which look really formidable as the caterpillars wave their bodies around, give them lots of protection from predators and allow them to 'break ranks' more to do their own thing.
