2016 Portland Modern Home Tour

This is one of the annual home tours that we pretty much always do.  We are both interested in seeing something new and different and touring these places gives us ideas.  A good and interesting mix this year, a floating modern home pictured here (the house in the middle next to the curvy one), which was really beautiful.  In addition to the brand new homes there were some older ones, a 1970s place that had had a renovation (house H), a gorgeous 1966 Rummer House (house E), and a beautiful 1950s home (house G) with huge windows which was like the outdoors were indoors.  I think the house that we both like the most was the one that wasn't on the tour - it was a bonus house built behind house B on NE Stanton Street - really great floor plan and light.  The one we liked the least was the apartment building (house D) up near OHSU on Pill Hill, the apartment on show was small and well designed but the shared spaces (hallways, elevators, etc.) were dark and disorienting, no external light coming in at all, made me want to leave right away.  Overall my favorite was the Rummer house, for hubby the floating home.

Here's a link to the official website if interested.  And here's a link to some of my pictures, I didn't photograph all the homes.

Hot.  97ºF/36ºC.  Thank you, engineers, for creating air conditioning.
