Hvar

As soon as we awoke we could feel, or rather hear, the sea was much calmer. When we went to bed we could hear the mooring lines stressing as the ship moved. This morning there was no such sound.

Our first breakfast was a pleasant surprise. Maybe not quite as good as the hotel, but nevertheless not bad, with abundant fresh fruit as well as the usual things to be expected with a continental breakfast. The ship left Milna promptly at 8am. After breakfast we adjourned to the sun deck, which at this point was not too sunny and with a cool breeze. Still we stuck it out and within an hour or so the sun and clear skies returned.

After lunch we were ferried across to Hvar. It is a small harbour and even small cruise ships are too large as they do not leave room for the ferries. The transfer from ship to shore too about 20 minutes.

Hvar is another small town where the buildings are constructed almost exclusively of limestone, and so are gleaming white. Overlooking the town is a large fortress built to defend the town against the Turks of the Ottoman Empire. We had a pleasant afternoon wandering around the town before having dinner, after which we returned to the boat which had been allowed to enter the harbour just after eight when the last ferry had left. We were the second of five ships moored side by side. We were told the ship would have to leave by 6am in the morning, so there would be no time for a stroll.
