Firemen - the heroes in the city during centuries

Summer party with colleagues at the old Fire station in Oslo, that is now a museum. Ivar Eriksen was our excellent guide. He is wearing a 100 year old uniform. Nowadays the uniforms tolerate up to 400 C.

Oslo has burned completely or partly down 12 times. Three of these fires were affixed by citizens under enemy attack, once from the Danish side (1137), twice from Sweden (1523, 1567).

In the beginning the firemen was on duty 24/7 365 days pr year. They lived on the station together with their families. A strong union has make working conditions better and I'm proud to say that they are organised in the trade union I work for.

A very pleasant afternoon and evening!
