My beloved Oslo - railway tracks inside walls

This is one of Oslo's rather cool building. It's from 1899, the architect is Henrik Nissen. Christiania Bank (The city was called Christiana at that time) was staying here on this adresse from 1822.

The bank was the Norwegian saving bank,  the first bank with a social profil and the first bank for working class, and both for men and women. Much of the bank's profits were spent on social projects in the capita, but also helped the expenses to build the Royal Palace, the Parliament, the University and other institutes.

Railway tracks are embedded in the walls to deter any robbers from digging they way into the bank. The windows are also protected with beautiful iron. For those interested in geology the building in should be worth a visit both outside and inside. The stone ornaments around the window is a dark, greenish gray  coarse grained soapstone with shiny reflections in biotite and chlorite crystals.

In 2014 the bank moved and now it's a culture house, 350 artists and culture producers work here, it's 6 halls for concerts, restaurants and bar.
