Rothesay Fountain

Backblipped for 3rd June

After a brief wander round the shops of Dunoon we took the ferry to Bute and drove over to Ettrick Bay. We pottered on the beach after a snack from the cafe, then continued South to Scalpsie Bay, which is notable for its situation on the Highland Boundary Fault, so we took some time inspecting the crumpled schists at the North side of the bay and the red sandstones on the other. There were several seals basking there, and, although we had been informed that dolphins had been spotted, we did not witness them.

After dinner we strolled round the park, impressed that, though several buildings in town (including the Pavilion) are rundown or under restoration, the fountain is merrily playing, which is more than can be said for the Ross fountain at home.
