Female Pied Flycatcher

Yesterday I went to Rhayader, Powys for the day. It was a lovely day out - we walked by the river and went to Gifach Nature Reserve.

While there it was lovely to see this female spotted flycatcher with a caterpillar in her beak. I heard a cuckoo but unfortunately didn't see it.

There were lots of insects around including this beautiful Small Pearl- bordered Fritillary. I was less pleased with the insect that gave me a big itchy bite on my hand, I must have missed that bit with the insect repellant!

It was a very hot day but a scone and cup of tea outside a tea shop was very refreshing.
