Graduation Day

"She's the inspiration for my graduation....." Elton John song about perhaps a young man's crush on his teacher. I think from the album "Don't shoot me I'm only the Piano Player"

This is L with Mrs SJR before setting off for the graduation presentation at Lochaber High School.
Head Master, Mr Sutherland, was very keen to point out that it was not a prize giving. Each pupil was inrtoduced on to the stage, had a few kind words on their achievements, sporting, voluntary work, music, arts, funny story from a school trip and their intended next steps in life and were presented with a certificate. The pupils all looked very smart, the boys in kilts the girls in ball gowns. Mrs SJR explained having a boy attending the evening was relatively cheap (kilt hire) whereas the girls apparently have to buy the dress, very high heeled shoes, hand bag, get hair done, make up, nails even a tan. You could probably buy a small van including VAT for the same money.

I must say I cruised a bit at this age and I always seemed  to drag a sense of lethargy about with me. Of his own accord L has studied very hard and the results of his previous 5 highers were of sufficient quality alone to grant unconditional entry to his course at St Andrews. Only two other pupils achieved the same level of passes. (We know because the headmaster told the audience.)
The pupils all went for a meal at a local hotel and there was dance band playing afterwards.

Going back to the song, perhaps L wasn't consciously inspired by Mrs SJR only in that he must have got the brains from her,

We are very pleased for him.
