A long tradition in Whitby

Boat building has been a major part of the History of the port going back to the days when the navy of Henry the Eighth had naval vessels built here.
The two spanking new fishing vessels are Lerwick boats and we have watched with interest as they near  completion.
Just when we get to the interesting part where somehow the get the boat off the high stocks down to the water level our holiday always  comes to an end!!
They certainly cant lift that large boat with that little crane, so obviously they have something with a heck of a lot more "Ooomph!" that will do the job, and one of these days I hope to see it done!
When the boats are completed they make a fine show dashing in and out of the harbour all shiny and new on their sea trials.
To anyone born in Hull when I was, a new trawler is a glamorous and as pleasing to see as a Ferrari sports car.
And these boats are light years ahead in sea worthyness  and performance than anything we had back then.
