Sgwarnog: In the Field

Sweeper

It's been dull and cool since I returned from Bordeaux, and I haven't seen a butterfly since the 6th, but there are moths about in daylight hours if you go rummaging in the undergrowth.

I discovered a Chimney Sweeper colony at Tong Park this time last year - I've not seen as many this year but they seem more widely distributed. keeping them company were one or two Silver-ground Carpets. Just as I was turning for home I walked into a cloud of Diamond-backs: 300+ in a small patch. The BBC was running a scare story a couple of days ago, but Butterfly Conservation have tried to introduce a sense of perspective.

And the orchids are out (extras).
