Cardinals can be noisy when they are beckoning their mates (or buddies) to join them.  This fellow sat motionless (except fo flapping his beak) for a good five minutes squawking for someone, anyone, to come.
They didn't.
He left.
(Sorry for the quality of the photo. I couldn't seem to get the camera to focus on anything but the forward whips.)

All of southern Arizona is under an excessive heat warning from now through Wednesday night.  It could break records set over 20 years ago. It warns that people working outdoors or those with health issues could suffer from life-threatening heat illnesses.

"*Temperatures...106°/41° - 120°/49° on Sunday and Monday...
102°/39°  - 116°/47°
  on Tuesday and Wednesday. Temperatures will reach dangerous levels during the mid-morning hours and remain dangerous through the early evening hours. Finish morning activities by 10 am.  Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water."
