Havel’s Place

There is an art expo on the Lange Voorhout in The Hague and this is one of the exhibit pieces. Two one armed chairs linked to each other by a round table with a tree growing in the center. The man sitting on the chair told me more about it. It's called Havel’s Place and is a memorial dedicated to the last president of Czechoslovakia and the first president of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Havel. The installation of Havel’s Places is a worldwide project initiated by the Czech ambassador to the US, Petr Gandalovič, and the architect and designer Bořek Šípek. The aim of the project is to create a network of places in public spaces that can contribute to meeting and the holding of genuine dialogue – places where it will be possible to hold discussions and reflect in the spirit of the ideals and philosophy of Václav Havel.
He also pointed out there are colored glass ornaments on the top of the chairs giving it a nice detail. Altough he had nothing to do with the object I considered him special enough to pose with the object he knew so much about.

Thanks for visiting my journal this week!
