Bassin de la Villette--Paris

We took the Eurostar express from London to Paris this afternoon--an incredible easy, fast and smooth ride, in two hours and twenty minutes. There have been difficulties due to migrants in Calais the past couple of years, but apparently none today.  A downpour on arrival at the Gare du Nord,  but we still got a taxi quickly to our hotel. This is part of our limited view--still raining a bit.

The Bassin de la Villette, in the northeastern part of Paris (19e), is the city's largest artificial lake, linked to the Seine and other waterways by canals at both ends. A lovely dinner at a small, informal bistro nearby, and then a weird 0-0 draw between Portugal and Austria in Euro 2016--Cristiano Ronaldo, Portugal's big star had a penalty shot to win the game near the end, but hit the post as the goalie dove the other way (he missed numerous other chances as well).

Posted the next morning--I've marked our exact location on the map.
