Pompidou Panorama

Various destinations today in Paris, concluding with a large and magisterial exhibition of Paul Klee at the Pompidou Center--he is one of my favorite artists, and in fact the reason we had come from London. It's wonderful--gratifyingly, most of the works are ones that I didn't know (even after my several decades pursuing Klee--not difficult, after all, since he created roughly 10,000 works). This blip is merged in PS 5 from two horizontal images. The extra shows the long ramp along the top of the building, looking south.

Prior to that we had lunch with our friend Anne, followed by the Jeu de Paume for photographs by Josef Sudek (1896-1976, probably the most important Czech photographer). I must confess I had known only his name, but I was blown away. The show is entitled "The Intimate World of Josef Sudek" (utterly appropriate, though unexpected for a great photographer). The most striking images are those through his studio window, often through myriad configurations of raindrops. There's a wonderful video of him at work in the outdoors, carrying his large view camera and a bulky tripod with one arm (he had lost the other in WW I).

Back at the hotel we watched a very dull 0-0  Euro 2016 match between France and Switzerland (nevertheless, they finished 1-2 in their group, thus qualifying for the knockout round of 16).
