The view from Mountshaft

Soaring ambition

Peterborough does not enjoy a good reputation. Mention this is your place of birth usually evokes a sympathetic smile... ne'er mind, eh? But the city centre has recently received investment and *shock* tasteful, well-planned improvements.
One of the most striking is the removal of a ghastly, bland 60s brick office block, which had been smothering the handsome 15th century St John The Baptist church in Cathedral Square. This hitherto hidden church now has complementary space in which you can stand back and admire its soaring spires, glistening in the sunshine as they reach heavenwards.
