First cut

First day of the first silage cut, first field in the evening. I could have finished it, but chose to mow a part of the next one instead. Our chopper can do both direct cut or pickup mown grass, but I haven't tried latter in years, mostly because of unstable weather. Now it looked like tomorrow it rain before evening and I decided to give it try.

Today's weather was as forecast, practically no rain, just a few drops in the afternoon. It was close though, a couple of showers passed us by. Surprisingly the field was not soft at all despite the rain on previous days. The ground must have been exceptionally dry and cracked to suck the amount of water so well. Wind had dried the grass, so it was reasonably dry too (for direct cut).
