Midsummer trip

We made a Midsummer trip to Helvetinjärvi National Park in Ruovesi. The landscapes of the area have inspired many Finnish artists especially in the National Romantic era, most of all Akseli Gallen-Kallela.

In the main photo a view to the Lake Helvetinjärvi (Hell's Lake) from a cliff near Helvetinkolu (Hell's Hole) gorge (extra photos #1 & #2, taken in about the middle of the gorge upwards and downwards). In extra photo #3 modern romantics meet national romantics.

In extra photo #4 wild boars on a farm nearby. They also have ostriches and Highland Cattle. They sell their products in a small restaurant by the gate to the park.

In extra photo #5 a boat with Midsummer decorations at the lock of Murole Canal. We had to wait a while when the swing bridge was turned while boats passed through the lock. Luckily it didn't rain just yet!
