Como

Como is a walled city, and here we are close to the wall. At weekends there is a large outdoor market which follows the line of what may have bee a defensive ditch at some point in the past, but is now filled in.

This morning there is brilliant sunshine, no sign of the weather of yesterday, and no more rain forecast for the duration of our stay here. So it seemed anyway.

We take the bus to Como where we are able to have lunch sitting outside. The main Piazza Cavour next to the lake is partially flooded, and the road in front of the lake is closed to traffic.

Sine the weather is nice and sunny we decide to get the slow ferry back to Lenno. The trip takes about two hours. About one hour into the trip the heavens opened. Lightening, hail stones crash onto the deck. As the ship rolls slightly torrents of water pour down the side of the vessel. We meanwhile are comfortable with a glass of wine in the saloon deck.

By the time we get to Lenno the rain is just stopping, we are able to walk up the hill to the apartment without getting drenched.
