Looks Good To Me

A Sudden Death

We covered  the bedroom mirror. We're not superstitious, or Jewish -- let me explain.

We were standing in the bedroom this morning, watching the Grosbeak fledglings taking turns at the high feeder, when one crashed into the window directly in front of us. It fell to the ground, quivered for a few seconds, and was dead -- its neck broken.

This usually happens when there's a window on opposite sides of a room, and a bird thinks it can fly through the room, but there's no window on the other side of our bedroom. There had been a couple of other non-fatal collisions.

I was puzzled, but when I turned around and saw the reflection of blue sky and trees in the mirror, I understood.  We immediately draped fabric over the mirror, and gave the bird a respectful burial later.
