Brighton Lake

A road closure on my trip to the garden centre forced me to park on Tunbridge Wells Common and complete my journey on foot.  I was rewarded by a shot of  of Brighton Lake; the official name for the pond where a chalybeate spring rises on the common. Apparently the unemployed of Tunbridge Wells dug out the lake in 1858  with their wages being paid  the local vicar- Rev Pope. Locals called the lake Pope's Folly.    But folly or not there were quite a few young men round the lake fishing this afternoon- perhaps the unemployed of today .

PS sorry for the complete lack of comments for the last few days- no wifi in the campsite on the top of Cleeve Hill!
