Inisturk Island

We thought this might be the only sunny day for our stay here, so we aimed to pack a lot in! We soon branched off from the way marked trail and climbed to the highest point on the island on mountain common. The views across the ocean to the north to the islands of Clare and Achill were spectacular. Following the coast to the west where the cliffs were high and full of sea birds on ledges or flying on the thermals, mainly Fulmars. The costal scenery was so dramatic and the hinterland so wild, we didn't see a sole until we reached the softer and more sheltered south. The white sand beach at Tranaun offered a secluded resting place before heading back to the B&B for a quick freshen up before heading to the community Centre for supper and a very sociable evening with fellow travellers.
