The Great Vegan Bake off

Today I tried a fool proof, easy recipe for 'THE BEST' vegan scones. I followed the recipe TO THE LETTER but as you can see neither of my attempts really delivered despite the promises. A thinly disguised metaphor for recent political events?!

The first batch on the left failed to rise, whilst the second attempt rose, they were a little heavy and not terribly tasty.
