Bishops Castle Tandem Triathlon 2016

".........and as they turned the corner, still combating the steep incline of Colstey Bank, they could finally see their goal in the distance."

Our nephew with his dad, Joe and Russ, competing in the 31st running of the tandem Triathlon at Bishops Castle today.  They have completed about 32km on the bike, climbing a 'killer' of a hill to reach the changeover for the cross country run.  They have already climbed this hill once.  I can tell you from bitter experience that the second time is infinitely worse than the first.

This event is in jeopardy.  The local swimming pool they use is in danger of closure because of cuts in Council funding.  If it is the last time it takes place, all of the competitors gave it a great send off.  The camaraderie was clear for all to see, and they even had competitors that had taken part every year.

For me it was a reminder of the agony and ecstasy of the competition.  I even thought if it did take place next year, I ought to compete again!  Well at least for a few seconds.
