Somme commemorations

Had an interesting afternoon in Heaton park - part of the Somme commemorations. This park is also where the soldiers were sent to train before being sent to the slaughter. Yesterday, one of the 'ghost' regiments, that have been in cities all over the UK, passed me. If you haven't seen them, they're young men dressed in uniforms of the day either waiting around or marching past. They all represent a real soldier and don't speak, but might hand you a card as they go past. The card gives their name, rank and date they died. I was given one yesterday. It was a strange feeling and very thought-provoking.
