The Needles, Isle of White

We visited the Old and New Batteries at The Needles today. It was so windy, I was blown over. A clear, sunny day, so great views along the coastline. We walked along the underground tunnel, and discovered the history of this place defending the coast during the World Wars, and also the secret rocket test site during the Cold War.

The Round the Island Race, hundreds of yachts taking part. Quite a spectacle. Great views of all the sails from our garden, and as we drove to The Needles.

Later we walked down the steep steps to Alum Bay. Waves crashing in at high tide. Significant coastal erosion along the cliffs.
