South Coast Scribblings

Windy much?

Even my son (who took this photo) didn't realise how hilarious my hair looked! This was taken at the high point on the Buttertubs Pass above Hawes, Wensleydale. It was a much colder and windier day today and we actually got rained on when we walked to Hardraw Force waterfall. It was more cold near the waterfall than high up, weirdly. We were all wearing fleeces and coats and my husband had gloves on (we all would if we had had them with us). My son said, "Nice weather for October!"

We went to a really unfriendly tea shop, where the local staff couldn't be bothered to speak to us, wandered in and out from the kitchen, doing nothing, and congregated in the kitchen, together with other locals chatting away. All the serving and clearing up was left to a lovely Asian woman who could hardly speak English. I gave her a big tip! It was such a contrast to the pub in Bainbridge where we had a great lunch and the cook came and chatted to us for ages.
