If you can't beat them...

Rogersia

When we were at the Lodge yesterday a bit of emergency repair raised it ugly head.  So this morning we set off with the car loaded with tools for Clickychick to garden  and me to do a bit of woodwork replacing a board in the veranda.

Casting around for blips while we were there I spotted this Rogersia aesculifolia (Chestnut Leaved) in full flower.  The plant has been in a few years and this is I think the most impressive flower spike I have seen.

We planted it where it is as liking damp conditions the part of the lawn where the water pooled seemed perfect.  A native of North China Rogersia rather surprisingly is a member of the Saxifrage family.  The leaves are surprisingly Chestnut like hence the aesculifolia in the name  (Horse Chestnut is Aesculus hippocastanum).
