Blue Ridge Mountains

Today we journeyed through the Blue Ridge mountains.  It was cool, low 80's, some clouds and a little bit of rain showers.  We drove 370 miles, and  visited some very interesting things.
The mountains have a great blue hue when view several miles over the valleys and ridges.  When under in the canopy of trees, there is a deep green with only a hint of blue.  The large bare patches are huge granite faces that drop down several thousand feet (mts are 7-8000' above sea
 level).
We went by a stone bridge that is the oldest bridge built in all of N Carolina.  We saw Chimney Rock in Saluda, that has a flag flying from the top.  Many of the streams were barely trickling as this this area needs lots of rain.
However, every wheres there were vacationers who were swimming in Lake Lure (site of Dirty Dancing film making), streets full lookers, and views that were fabulous.
   We had a great day.
