Pictorial blethers

A bright moment

We escaped today. It wasn't easy: one of our tradesmen was working overtime and wanted to crack on with a job that was held up yesterday, with the result that he was working in our house till after 1pm, and then there was the tennis, and the rain ...

Ah, the rain. This morning made me think of days which my father used to call "a real Arran stinker", though I'm sure we have more rain up here in Dunoon. We'd look out hopefully and it'd be coming down in stair-rods. However, by the time we were thinking of a walk it seemed to have lessened, and when we left the car at the foot of Glen Massan it was more or less dry.

The mist was low on the hills around as we pounded up the road. It was warm; we took off our cagoules and bemoaned our waterproof trousers. But the biggest surprise came in the upper glen, the corrie that is usually our goal on these walks: there were sudden gaps in the cloud and there was even some sunshine. This is the view as we headed back down; you can see that the cloud nearer the coast is greyer, while we are under a bright white sky with sun on the grass.

Felt better after that ...
