Trench features

This picture shows Raksha Dave (from Time Team) who was heading up Trench 1 where we worked, and Lisa Westcott-Wilkins from DigVentures (the company behind this dig at Flag Fen) getting an overview of what has emerged so far from Trench 1. On the right of the picture you might be able to see a dark area on the trench floor against the trench wall; that is the edge of a previous trench dug by a Time Team team in 1999. This trench therefore was built to extend that trench as they knew from previously that there would be stuff to find here.

I really enjoyed the experience, although pretty early on I got a cracking blister on my hand from trowelling, and I don't think my knees will ever be the same again!
