Spoken Word

We had planned to photograph some spoken word artists performing at the Mississippi Street Fair, but my back is still a mess and they were expecting 30,000 people, so I figured they didn’t need me. Some other photographer, one whose back wasn’t in spasm, would probably do the job, and I could rest. Maybe my new favorite local professional photographer, Diego G. Diaz, who did such a great job at the march on Thursday, would be there.

So here, instead of spoken word performers at the Mississippi Street Fair, is Sue, taking a photograph of hollyhocks in her garden, surrounded by clematis and weigela, and by the lush growth that comes from a cool, rainy summer.

In place of spoken word art, here is a bit of Sue’s wisdom, delivered this evening as she was warming some chicken and potatoes she cooked yesterday, lamenting the fact that she threw away the pan juices: “Life is not a series of brilliant moves.”

Nobody says it better.
