Dangerous road !

thought I'd head out to the mountains this afternoon for a change aiming for a brief stroll on some of the lower slopes , as still very hot.  Little did I know that I'd get waylaid by 'hitchhikers' and end up driving along the D6 over the 'Col de Mantet' to Mantet. Normally I would not pick anyone up on the road, especially at such a creepy place as this. There is an abandoned car and what looks like an exhausted nurse collapsed at a nearby 'portacabin' ! (see extra) I was approached by a group of exhausted hikers, who pushed forward a 6 year old boy , followed by a girl of about 10 , both looking rather shattered. 'Are you going to Mantet?' they asked, 'well in that direction but not going that far' . 'Well can you take them as far as your going?'  I ended up with the 2 children, a woman, and about 8 very heavy rucksacks in the car. Not sure how I could have abandoned them somewhere along the road where there is very little passing traffic. We ended up on a very scenic road full of hairpin bends for about 15 km then reached the little village of Mantet, set beautifully within the mountains. Its so isolated that it was the last village in France to get mains electricity. The Col was one of the escape routes through to Spain during the war. Had a pleasant stroll around the village and a welcome drink at the place they were staying at prior to heading back across the Col. The second photo is from a short distance up the road from Py.
