Free Falling

Took our friends to our (not so) secret beach today. The sense of space and freedom is immense yet the towering presence of the bridge makes you feel tiny and safe.

As a renowned suicide spot there seems a sadness in the air, projected of course by the adults who see sad news of yet another 'jumper' from time to time but the kids know nothing of this as they play carefree.

Every time we come, in spite of the fun and the relaxed pottering I am always mindful of those who came here to end it all. I ponder what they sense as they make that last jjourney from the bridge to the water - falling for a lifetime yet in the blink of an eye to what they hope is freedom. I say a prayer for their family and friends.
