Well and truly riggwelted

A quick walk along the beach this afternoon, before the promised rain arrived, revealed a mass of stranded lion's mane jelly fish, some on their fronts, most on their backs, but all doomed.

Riggwelter is a local Yorkshire Dales farming term which has Norse roots; “rygg” meaning back, and “velte” meaning to overturn. A sheep is said to be rigged or 'riggwelted' when it has rolled onto its back and is unable to get back up without assistance. I wonder if there is a term to describe a riggwelted jellyfish?

The "extra" was taken when I returned home to find that Thomas, our elderly cat, had taken over my table-top "photographic studio" for his afternoon siesta. That cat has a keen nose for a comfortable place to snooze!
