Luray Caverns, Luray, Virginia

Day 10:  I drove 262 miles today and got to Luray in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  It is beautiful here... the views and vistas are wondrous!
After I checked in to my Motel, I went to Luray Caverns.  At it's deepest point, we were 163' below the surface.  These caves are 700 million years old.  It takes 100 years to create 1" of stalagmite.  The water with the assistance of carbon dioxide, has erode the underground to create these caverns.  It took us an hour to walk down the levels to end up in the Cathedral Cavern, where gentle hammers have been arranged to create the oldest organ ever, generating an amazing sound, so sweet and true.
The posted picture is of a stalagmite, to a couple of inches of water,  Look carefully, you can see where the reflection begins, in this very clear water.  To the Left, you will see a reflection of the ceiling, about 20' above.  There is another picture of a reflection, and there is a picture of a stalactite which looks like a Christmas tree.  There were several sculptures from the drippings within the cave.    A wonderful experience!!!!!
