A day out in Ely

M and I drove to Ely today to met B and M&M.  We started with tea and cake mid morning in the Almonry Cafe.   We then wandered around the huge and magnificent Cathedral, before a very tasty lunch at The Old Fire Engine House.
It was the hottest day of the year so far, temperatures in the low 30's and so we were only too glad to enter the blissful cool of the cathedral.  Work on this fine cathedral began in the early 1080's on the site of a monastery founded in 673.  In my opinion, it is one of the finest cathedrals in England, with some of the most beautiful stained glass windows..
It was great to get together with our good friends and wander around Ely, enjoy a fine lunch and catch up with each other's news...a wonderful day all round.
The extra is of the beautiful Octagon Ceiling.
