Proportion in all things

The lily's tall and lordly,
a stately flower, and fair,
while creeping on the ground
the scarlet pimpernel is rare.

The lily, carefully planted,
grew from bulb, no common seed,
while tiny scarlet pimpernel
is classified a weed.

The lily seems more dignified,
but scarlet pimpernel,
when photographed and magnified,
shows beauty just as well.

The lily's tall and lordly
a bloom to make you stare
while few would even notice
scarlet pimpernel was there.

They'd see a mess of greenery
beneath their heavy feet
in a garden left unmanicured
when gardens should be neat.

"She must be mad!" I hear them now;
each neighbour soon concedes:
"She doesn't pull them by their roots:
She photographs her weeds!"

"There's none so blind," the saying goes,
"as those who will not see."
And, if I'm asked, I'll tell them, "Well,
I've left them for the bee!"
