Drove my Chevy to the Levi

Well, in this case we drove our loan-Citroen to Levi, but who cares.

It’s 8 pm and the sun is high up in the sky.  It’s 27°C in the sun. The boys (one in his 80s, one in his 60s and one in his 30s) are going out to the swamp after midnight, so we are starting to turn in for tonight. At first their goal was to leave at 2 am, but as the night comes closer they plan to leave sooner. That’s what we call ‘Lapin hulluus’ which translates to Lapland madness. All they see is the cloudberries waiting to get picked up from the swamp. First they drive something like 100 km to get there.

We saw 3 reindeer after we crossed the arctic circle. This is one of them. When driving here you have to keep an eye on the reindeer to avoid crashing with them.

So this is short tonight as everyone needs to get 4 hours of sleep before they leave. They’ll be on their way back when I wake up.

Why do they leave that early? (I asked that too!) Well,
a) that’s what all the ‘professional cloud berry pickers do, because
b) the berries don’t get mushed when they are picked up as colder (night temps are colder)
c) it’s just too hot right now to do it after 9 am
