Sunflower

I had a series of meetings in Manchester today.

The blips bookended the day.

On my way in, crossing the river from the Salford bank, I took the shot in the Extra. The big crane is being used to dismantle existing bridges, before a huge one is built. Princes bridge - most recently a pedestrian bridge - has largely gone, and the Zig Zag bridge will go next, revealing for the first time in over a hundred years George Stephenson's original stone bridge. The new bridge will cross Trinity Way and the Irwell, linking for the first time Victoria and Piccadilly stations, and creating much needed capacity on the clogged up rail system.

On the way out, late afternoon, there were lots of people starting their weekends. The blip is the bottom end of New Cathedral Street, people relaxing in deckchairs listening to a jazz band (the Manchester Jazz Festival starts today). Each of the tables has a sunflower as a centre piece, accompanied by that essential Friday evening implement - a glass of Prosecco.
