Greater Yellowlegs (Tringa melanoleuca)

After breakfast I headed over to the mud marshes close-by and found a Greater Yellowlegs nicely hidden in the draining mud. Once I spotted him, it was then a question on how in the world was I going to get closer. I took lots of shots from a distance, and then started wading across the mud, trying to step on rocks or shells...anything to keep my once white tennis shoes clean (ha!). At first he seemed to be quite aware of the shutter sound, but he eased up a bit, and let me get quite close. He was feeding on little fish and worms...such a beautiful bird and the first I've seen here at Roche Harbor WA.
