Essex Dipper

AJC on here says that Essex skipper butterflies are characterised by antennae that look like they have been dipped in black ink. I shot this little darling in our disused car park which is being reclaimed by grasses and wild flowers.

I don't think there is any doubt that this is an Essex skipper. I love these insects so much. This one sat and posed for me for ages. I'm delighted that we have provided a habitat that suits a butterfly that bears the name of our county. It's doubly dear to me because of its association with a revered, departed, friend of our family.
