Purple thorn

This year moth trapping has been a bit of a disappointment, never really getting going in quite the same way it did last year. I don't know if it's the conditions, my MV bulb or what, but after several disappointing nights last night was a bit better, among the egg boxes I found this beauty a purple thorn Selenia tetralunaria, another beautiful member of the thorn family to add to those I have blipped already.
The Purple thorn, like the Early thorn produces 2 generations a year with the late summer smaller and paler than the earlier generation. It is common in southern England where it is found in parks, gardens and other bushy areas.
Thankfully I had a good photography day today!
