St Ciaran's Church, Achnacarry

A gem of a church hidden in the forest.
My trek today took me along the Great Glen Way through dense forest above the shores of Loch Lochy on the route between Gairlochy and Laggan.
20km of exquisite scenery with glimpses of the Loch revealing themselves between huge Sequoias and dense pine forest with beech and alder running down the steep banks to the quietly lapping water.
Wet all morning, the forecast having been for showers, was correct except that they were all joined up and sometimes heavy. But that added to the experience with clouds rolling down over the far side of the loch in a continually evolving drama. Brightness near Laggan gave way to drizzle and midge clouds - the first of the little blighters seen since I started. I took sanctuary in the Eagle Barge, a dutch barge now serving as a bar and restaurant for a very welcome cuppa and some good chat too, and back there later this evening for food and more chat. Quite a place.
I was having phone battery issues today, probably because it was working hard to find a gps signal under the tall trees, so not too many pics from the last sections of the walk and no in situ sketching due to the rain. This one was done later from a photo.
To Fort Augustus tomorrow, estimated at 17km.
Will attempt some extras but wifi not great so may not happen.
