Arnside Special

The Arnside Bore.

Now, now. No Wisecracks please. This is not a selfie. I try hard to inform and amuse.

This is the well known Bore on the river Kent. A pale relation to the Severn Bore. But nevertheless worth a look if you are here on the right day.

It is caused by the incoming tide in Morecambe Bay. This travels over the extensive sands and then suddenly reaches the narrowing Kent Estuary. It is said it can race in faster than a man can run which is certainly true in my case.

In the centre of the picture you can see Swans which ride the crest for several hundred yards.

The best Bores are with the very Spring and Autumn Tides. This is quite a good one for August.
