Corn Scene in Green

It's early August, and summer's bounties are ripening, getting ready for harvest. The corn is tall and green everywhere in central Pennsylvania. I love to get out and see the sights in the morning, so I stopped at a pretty little graveyard on a backroad for some pictures.

The morning light was astounding, with the trees throwing long shadows on the green, green grass. I took a bunch of pictures of the graveyard itself, which is always fun.

When I was done, I was headed back to my car, when on a lark, I got the sudden idea to shoot a few shots with my camera tucked right down in among the corn. You know, to get that whole "children of the corn" close-up and personal feel. :-)

I used the super vivid setting on my camera to really get some juiced-up, surreal greens and golds in this shot. I liked the way that the corn leaves turned out; they almost seemed . . . like a painting.

The lyrics quoted at the start of this posting are from the song Oh, What a Beautiful Morning, from the musical Oklahoma. And so that is the song to accompany this green summer image. I'm including two versions: one by Hugh Jackman, and the other by Gordon MacRae from the 1955 film.
