Bandit at 8 O'clock

Hoverfly of the type commonly referred to as a marmalade fly - Episyrphus balteatus
approaching a welted thistle - Carduus crispus

The green and magenta of the thistle were looking rather too 'in your face' so I muted them with an overlay for this final version.

Regarding the gull chick: It is still on our roof but a neighbour tells me that she saw it take a short circular flight yesterday so it has officially fledged.
